it’s funny how quickly change can occur.
one moment: “barrie”; the next: “lewis”.
a single glance in your direction confirms what my ears were telling me.
your voice rings in my head, clear as the Texas summer sky.
i scurry off to find my book, not wanting you to vanish before i find it.
talk slips out of your mouth; a comment on his name.
“clive staples?”
before i have time to stumble for words, i spit out, “have you read any of his books?”
with a grin, you reply, “only the narnia series.”
oh great. my mind has gone blank. what can i say to make your day? how can i vie to catch your eye? utter something to remember me by?
“you should read some of his other books. they’re really good.”
